What led to Buddhism
Buddha did not become enlightened by becoming a strict monk and starving himself, he became a monk by practicing the "Middle Way"-- a practice where he wasn't strict but wasn't too lenient. Buddha sent his disciples all around India to teach Buddhism to those who wished to practice it. The teaching stated that everyone has Buddha inside of them, making the people who were known as the "Untouchables," people who had no significance in society, feel as if they belong. Buddha considered all people completely equal without titles and believed even women should have a large role in society.

Buddha's Belief
Buddha lived life as every creature before he became human so he could
be ready to teach humans the way of simplistic life. Because Buddha lived every life possible, he believed that we all evolved in from the same things;
meaning we are all equal in every way, including creatures. Buddhists were the top religion that believe evolution was the reason for the existence.
